Pre-Menstrual Tension (PMT): The Body’s Monthly Signal for Balance
Pre-menstrual tension is not a disorder or a hormonal “fault”. It is a monthly signal that the body is under load and struggling to complete its natural cyclical work with ease. In the weeks leading up to menstruation, the body shifts towards cleansing and elimination. When elimination pathways are congested, overloaded, or energy is diverted elsewhere, this natural process becomes uncomfortable and symptoms appear.
Common PMT expressions such as irritability, low mood, bloating, breast tenderness, headaches, cravings, fatigue, and anxiety are not random. They reflect retained waste, fluid congestion, nervous tension, and endocrine strain, often combined with insufficient rest and inappropriate stimulation. The menstrual cycle simply exposes what has been quietly building throughout the month.
From a Natural Hygiene perspective, PMT improves when the body is given less to deal with, not more to manage. Heavy, dense, or irritating foods, chronic stress, irregular sleep, stimulants, and constant activity all increase internal load. When these pressures are reduced and the body is supported through simplicity, rest, hydration, gentle movement, calm breathing, and appropriate nourishment, the cycle often becomes quieter, shorter, and more comfortable.
PMT is not something to suppress or medicate away. It is feedback. When the underlying causes are addressed, the body no longer needs to shout each month.
