In 1865, Louis Pasteur made a discovery that forms the basis for modern-day germ theory and medicine. This theory of disease is something that suits the ego of modern man. Previously, people would blame themselves for their sicknesses caused by their transgressions against natural health standards. Now, man can blame germs that invade his body and put the responsibility of his health onto the shoulders of medical professionals who know how to kill them. This ultimately causes man to see his own health as something outside of his control.
